Roof algae and black streaks on shingles
Why it happens here
The humidity near Lake Apopka keeps roofs damp longer, creating ideal conditions for algae. The algae feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles, leaving black streaks that spread across the roof.
Our approach
We clean the roof with a chemical treatment that kills the algae at the root. Then we recommend algae-resistant shingles for replacements. We also apply a preventive treatment every two years to keep it from coming back.
